The city of Richmond is located in Wayne County, Indiana. With a rich history and a myriad of historical sites, Richmond is a beautiful city that received the All-American City Award twice. There are plenty of fun activities in the area as well, meaning that residents are proud and happy of their hometown.
A variety of Native American groups spent time in the area historically, but the first European settlers to arrive on the scene were Quakers from North Carolina. Charles Francis Jenkins grew up in Richmond and demonstrated his invention to project a filmed motion picture for the first time in the city. Jenkins later sold his “Phantascope” to Thomas Edison who developed the device into Edison’s Vitascope.
